5 wisdoms shared in perimenopause
The wisdom women gain from each chapter in life and sharing it with others cannot be underestimated. The strength shared in sisterhood provides a crucial lifeline and a light for others. That’s why in honour of Menopause Awareness Month, we turned to our Wild community to share the five wisdoms they’ve gained - in peri and menopause and beyond…
1. What’s one wisdom you’ve gained in this chapter of your life that you’re grateful for?
That I need to really listen to myself and my body/mind and say no to things that don’t feel right. This includes acknowledging the need to rest and to be honest with myself when I need to recharge.
2. In what ways do you think you’re stronger and/or wiser now than before perimenopause, and why?
I’m wiser and stronger in my mindset and my resolve. I finally have confidence in my own decision-making, but first and foremost, I prioritise my family and myself over everything else in life.
3. If you could tell future generations one thing about perimenopause, what would it be?
I really didn’t realise that perimenopause was a thing; it’s not something my mum’s generation ever knew about or really discussed. The more you know, the more you’re armed. Knowledge about this stage is power. Don’t be afraid to do the research, talk about it with your girlfriends - and remember you’re never alone.
4. What three words would you use to describe womanhood?
Emotional. Empowering. Occasionally bonkers!
5. What’s the most important life lesson you’ve learned and why?
To be grateful for every day. Life can be short and challenging, but take time to appreciate the sunlight, the birdsong, and the people you choose to surround yourself with.
