Our Food–Grown® Vitamin D provides a high strength of 1000iu which is highly absorbable, biologically active (not storage) form of vitamin D3. This naturally includes all forms of vitamin D, including vitamin D3, D2 and D1. High absorption and retention in the body reduces the need for high dosing long term. Public health advice recommends supplementation for all during autumn and winter, and for certain individuals or 'at risk' groups - during spring and summer too.
The Department of Health recommends: Everyone over the age of four should take 10 micrograms (400iu) of vitamin D every day, particularly from October to March. All pregnant, breastfeeding women and at-risk groups (such as people from ethnic minority groups with dark skin, elderly people in care homes and those who wear clothing that cover most the skin) should take a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (400iu) of vitamin D. However, consider that many people in the UK do not get good access to consistent sunlight due to work (offices) and 'typical British' summer weather (cloudy days and rain).
All babies from birth up to one year of age should take 8.5 to 10 micrograms (340iu to 400iu) of vitamin D per day (particularly those being breastfed).
Babies fed infant formula will not need vitamin drops until they are receiving less than 500ml (about a pint) of infant formula a day, as these products are fortified with vitamin D.
Children between the age of one and four should take 10 micrograms of vitamin D supplements all year round. People aged 65 years and over and people not exposed to much sun should also take a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (400iu) of vitamin D.

We don't use a synthetic source of vitamin D3, and its in the biologically 'active' form of D3 - scientifically referred to as 25-hydroxycholecalciferol or 'calcitriol'. This form is rarely available in most shops or online and its the same form that your body makes in response to sunlight. Research shows the affectiveness for increasing levels in those that have low vitamin D status and is important for calcium absorption. Your body has to convert the 'stored' form of the vitamin D3 to the 'active' form - so with supplementation its more efficient to use a natural, non-synthetic 'active' D3.
Its officially recommended to supplement extra vitamin D between October and March. You can combine our Food-Grown Vitamin D alongside any of our products, including our Daily Multis and Balance Multi Nutrient. If you are unwell, pregnant/breast feeding, staying indoors for extended periods of time, are elderly or have dark skin – you will need to supplement extra vitamin D all year around.
No - only 10 % of your vitamin D intake comes from food. The rest we have to obtain from sunlight and supplementation. If you don't eat animal produce/by products (meat, oily fish, dairy, eggs) then you won't be getting any vitamin D via food.

Yes, absolutely you can. And between October and March, its officially recommended to supplement extra so we recommend combining those two products. This may also apply to summer time if consistently indoors.
Yes absolutely. 1,000 iu (or 25ug) is not high dose and is no where near a toxic dose level (which into the tens of thousands taken long term). Most people across the UK are low unless they have good access to sunlight or supplement. Low levels are implicated in unwanted symptoms, poor health and disease. Some people may need to take more than 1,000 iu but you can check with our Nutrition Technical team.
Public Health England has announced that they now recommend people take vitamin D during spring and summer. Normally they recommend only supplementing between October and March unless you are considered a risk category such as in pregnancy or old age. Supplementation is now recommended for all, in the warmer months, due to the lockdown.
