Frequently Asked Questions

Does your Pregnancy multi contain the required 400ug of folic acid?

Absolutely – yes it does. In fact, it contains the more biologically active form of folic acid - natural folate. Folate is easier for your body to use as it does not require a conversion, which is especially important as some women lack (genetically) the capacity to convert folic acid to active folate. We also only use a food form of folate – not a synthetic.

Do I use your Food-Grown Pregnancy multi for each trimester or just the first?

The product is expertly formulated to support every stage of your pregnancy for your health and the babies’. Therefore, we recommend it all the way through your pregnancy. In fact, in the last trimester the baby will complete some final key developmental shifts – ready in time for birth – which means that the mother will need to be ‘stocking up’ on those nutrients in advance of the last trimester. Nutrient status also needs to be excellent in preparation for labour and post-labour healing/recovery.

My midwife/doctor has said I don't need to supplement folic acid for longer than 12 weeks - so is it suitable for me to use your Pregnancy Multi longer term?

Absolutely yes - this formula is designed to support you through all trimesters. We use a special active form of folic acid, called folate (your body has to convert folic acid into folate anyway) in the natural form just like you would find in food. Folic acid and folate both protect your baby from neural tube defects, which is why its officially recommended for the first trimester. But, natural folate has countless jobs to do in the body that extend beyond protection from neural tube defects, that the mother and developing baby will require all the way through gestation for good health. There is no safety issue supplementing natural folate at any stage – which is a positive since some research shows its not ideal to supplement folic acid beyond 12 weeks. But Wild Nutrition never uses folic acid. We only use a natural folate. Our labels do state ‘folic acid’, but we are legally required to adhere to UK labelling laws (we are sorry for the confusion).

I noticed you include folic acid in your Food-Grown Pregnancy, but I am actually looking for a methylated folate since I have genetic issues (MTHFR) with converting folic acid into folate – is this formula suitable for me?

Absolutely, yes, it is. We do legally have to list it as ‘folic acid’ but it is in the form of natural methylated folate. Sadly, we don’t make the legal label laws in the UK and we appreciate this is frustrating. Our natural folate is suitable for genetic variations in folate metabolism. Please note – not only is it folate but its natural folate. Since some companies can produce a synthetic folate (which ours is not).

Can I safely take other nutrients alongside your Pregnancy multi?

Yes, you can safely use in addition the following: Food-Grown Vitamin C, Food-Grown Immune Support, Food-Grown Vitamin B6, Food-Grown Iron Plus, Food-Grown Methyl Connect, Pure Strength Omega 3, Multi Strain Biotic and Food-Grown Vitamin D/Vegan Vitamin D. But we do recommend checking with our Nutrition Technical team if you are adding multi products to your list, so we can check they are all compatible.

I am due to give birth - do I need to stop using your Food-Grown Pregnancy?

No, you can continue using this formula, as it was developed to support mothers after the birth. Sometimes the ‘4th trimester’ is the most challenging, when facing recovering from birth (healing), settling into motherhood, lack of sleep and energy lows, feeding, hormone shifts and more. So, your body will need even more nurture than before.

How long after the birth should I use your Food-Grown Pregnancy?

If you are breast feeding, we do recommend using it for as long as you feed - or at least while your baby is gaining most of its daily nutrition from you – so you could stop at around 6-8 months (weening). But in most cases, including if you don’t breast feed, we recommend you keep using this multi till your baby is 12 months old. You can of course use it for longer. Certainly, if bottle feeding after the birth, you will still need to optimise your own nutrition and the most suitable multi in terms of nutrient levels – is the Food-Grown Pregnancy. If you are unsure, please contact our Nutrition Technical Team.

Can I safely take your Food-Grown Breast Feeding Complex, alongside the Food-Grown Pregnancy?

Absolutely, yes you can. In fact, the products were formulated with the view to taking them in combination. This is because the Food-Grown Pregnancy was designed to be used after the birth and the Food-Grown Breast Feeding is not a multi – so they ‘click’ together nicely.

Do I need to take extra vitamin D with your Pregnancy multi?

It depends: The formula does contain the officially recommended 10ug (400iu) of vitamin D3. But in many cases, women will need more and therefore we do very often recommend you use our Food-Grown Vitamin D or Vegan Vitamin D, on top of our Pregnancy multi. Between October and March, everyone in the UK is required to supplement vitamin D. And during the spring and summer months if you are risk category – which includes women who are pregnant or recently given birth/breast feeding. Our Nutrition Technical team can safely assist you if you are unsure how much more vitamin D to take.

I noticed the dose on your Food-Grown Pregnancy is three capsules per day - do I need to divide up the capsules over the day?

No, the dose is designed to be taken all together (all three capsules at the same time). There is no benefit or need to separate the dose out. There is no safety issue with taking all three together. You must take all three capsules each day, so you intake the correct nutrient levels for you and your baby.
